Venue Info

The Padang cricket ground is one of the oldest cricket venues in the history. It plays host to the Singapore cricket team. Cricket has been played at this ground as far back as 1837. The Padang is a multi-use ground and hosts competitions in rugby sevens, soccer sevens and hockey sixes. In 1996, the Padang hosted a tri-series between India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It was Pakistan who ran away with the winner's trophy by beating Lanka in the finals but several records were created and broken at this venue during the tournament. At the Padang ground, Jayasuriya scored the then fastest century in limited overs international in 48 balls. Jayasuriya also hit the most sixes in limited overs international with 11 sixes at this venue. During the tri-series final too, Jayasuriya scored the then fastest half-century in ODI cricket off just 17 balls. In 2003, the Padang cricket ground went under extensive re-development for the first change to its structure for nearly 120 years, which cost around $17 million. Improvements include the appropriately named Stumps bar which boasts an outdoor seating area and views of the ground.
