Sugandika Kumari was born on 5 October 1991 in Anamaduwa, Sri
Lanka. She bowls slow left-arm orthodox spin and bats left-handed in
the lower order, and her primary role in the team is as a bowler.
She made her W-ODI debut for Sri Lanka in January 2015 against
Pakistan, and her Twenty20 International debut a few days later the
same month, also versus Pakistan. Early in her career she played
domestic cricket for Sri Lanka Army Sports Club Women, and also
represented provincial sides such as Basnahira Province and Central
Province.
Over the years she has been named in Sri Lanka’s squads for major
tournaments. She was included in the 2018 Women’s World T20, the
2020 Women’s T20 World Cup, the 2021 Women’s World Cup Qualifier, the 2022 Commonwealth Games and its qualifiers, and also in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. Her resume of inclusion in these multilateral tournaments has reflected her consistency as a spin option in Sri Lanka’s limited-overs teams. And by 2025, she was selected for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup as well.
