Joel Curtis is an Australian left-handed wicketkeeper-batter whose rise through the Western Australia pathway is built on perseverance rather than early hype. After being overlooked at different stages of the state system, he continued to pile on runs in WACA Premier Cricket for Perth Cricket Club, eventually earning a Western Australia contract. His composed stroke play, ability to bat long innings and reliability behind the stumps have established him as one of Australia's promising wicketkeeper-batters.
Curtis made his First-class debut in 2023 for Western Australia against Queensland in the Sheffield Shield, before making his List A debut in 2025 against South Australia in the Marsh One-Day Cup. His breakthrough came during the 2024-25 Sheffield Shield season when, in only his third First-class match, he top-scored in both innings against Victoria, including a maiden unbeaten 119, announcing himself as a player capable of succeeding at the highest domestic level. He carried that form into the 2025-26 domestic season, scoring heavily in the One-Day Cup, where he registered his maiden List A century and finished among Western Australia's leading performers.
At club level, Curtis has been one of the standout performers in Western Australian Premier Cricket. His exceptional 2024-25 campaign, during which he amassed 972 runs at an average above 80 for Perth Cricket Club, including 6 centuries, earned him the prestigious Olly Cooley Medal as the competition's Fairest and Best player. Those performances cemented his reputation as one of the country's most consistent domestic batters and accelerated his progression into higher honours.
His exploits also opened the door to franchise cricket. Curtis was signed by the Perth Scorchers, making his T20 debut in the 2025-26 Big Bash League, while continuing to develop as Josh Inglis' understudy in the Western Australia setup. In 2026, he was included in the Scorchers' squad for the Global Super League, further underlining the faith the franchise has in his long-term potential.
