A rain-marred day belonged to the Indians as they strengthened their position in the 5th Test match against England. After posting 416 on the board in the first innings, Jasprit Bumrah came out all guns blazing. He broke the back of England's top order by picking up the first three wickets to fall before rain intervened. When the match resumed, Mohammed Shami looked menacing as well and made the English batters uncomfortable. Mohammed Siraj then came to the party as he bowled a scorcher of a delivery to send back England's best batter, Joe Root back to the hut. The Indian pacers have taken 66 wickets in the Pataudi Trophy 2021-22 which is the most in the history of the series.
England continued to struggle with their top order as both Alex Lees and Zak Crawley failed while Pope too did not last long. Joe Root did look assured at the crease for a while but in the last few balls of his innings, he was struggling and was eventually dismissed. Leach, sent as the Nightwatchman, did not last long and England are in all sorts of bother at the end of Day 2.
Earlier in the day, Ravindra Jadeja continued from where he left off and reached his century, his first away from home. Soon after he fell, Jasprit Bumrah came out to bat and carted Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over which is the most in an over in Test history.
