Born and raised in Pakistan, Ehsan Khan’s first brush with leather-ball cricket came back in 1998. He quickly developed into a steady off spinner and went on to represent Rawalpindi in List A cricket. In 2012, life took a decisive turn when an opportunity came his way to move to Hong Kong. Initially arriving as a coach cum player, he devoted himself to developing local talent while also pursuing his own cricketing ambitions.
The transition was not easy, as Hong Kong’s high costs and limited cricketing infrastructure meant taking up extra coaching jobs to support his family. Yet, through perseverance and focus, he continued to refine his craft and within four years earned a place in the national team. His debut year in 2016 announced him in style. Ehsan played his first T20I against Ireland before making his ODI debut against Scotland. From there, he established himself as Hong Kong’s go-to spinner.
Standout performances included a match-winning four-wicket haul against Afghanistan at the 2018 World Cup Qualifier and memorable Asia Cup dismissals of MS Dhoni and Babar Azam, moments that underlined Hong Kong’s ability to compete with the best. The year 2024 proved to be one of his most rewarding in international cricket. At the ACC Premier Cup, he finished as Hong Kong’s leading wicket-taker and played a central role in securing qualification for the 2025 Asia Cup. Later in the year, he added another milestone by becoming the first bowler from Hong Kong to reach 100 wickets in T20 Internationals.
